Eye tests for drivers, BMW announces X4 and Ford unveils the B-Max

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

There have been calls to make eye testing compulsory for drivers after research showed that around four million motorists in Britain fail to meet the minimum eyesight requirement. The current prerequisite is that a new motorist should be able to read a number plate from 65 feet away, but due to deteriorating eyesight because of factors such as aging and fatigue, many drivers fall below this standard while holding a valid licence in later years.

Since there’s an aging driving population in Britain, the government is considering reviewing the eyesight tests, which have been described by Dr. Mark Young of Brunel University as ‘not fit for purpose’. Dr. Young recently completed the UK’s most comprehensive study of vision and driving, recommending that the test should also examine a driver’s field of view to check if they can react to events happening around them. He also maintains that no provisional licence should be handed out to new drivers until a comprehensive eye test is completed.

It may not be the first thing to come to people’s minds when they’re looking to buy new cars on finance, but in the interests of safety for both themselves and others on the roads, it’s well worth having an eye test every few years.

BMW reveals a host of upgrades and new models

Friday, January 27th, 2012

BMW has been working hard for many years to create one of the most desirable brands on our roads, with ‘the ultimate driving machine’ claims backed up by a range of cars that have rarely been a let-down. To stay ahead of the game, the Bavarian brand has bombarded us with diverse models in recent years, as well as keeping up its backbone ranges such as the 3 Series and 5 Series.

The 3 Series is BMW’s biggest seller and has recently been updated, much to the delight of legions of BMW fans looking ahead to their next BMW finance deal. BMW hasn’t left it there, either, with 2012 bringing a whole host of new and updated models.

BMW M3 is still the performance yardstick

Monday, November 7th, 2011

A wise person once uttered the phrase: “Jack of all trades. Master of none” and, for the most part, this is an adage that holds true. However, there are always exceptions to any rule, and in the motoring world the exception is the all-singing, all-dancing BMW M3. In fact, if you go for a BMW lease deal on this car (or BMW contract hire package for businesses), you’ll be driving the car equivalent of a Swiss Army knife.

The M3 has obtained legendary status among petrolheads around the world since the first generation of the iconic sports car debuted in the mid 1980s. Since then, it has become both the benchmark for all performance saloons to be judged by and a massive success for the Bavarian car maker. It also improves dramatically as each generation goes by, and with a new BMW M3 leasing plan you will be getting the “ultimate driving machine”, as the BMW marketing regularly boasts.

The Knowledge: BMW babies look unbeatable

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

There are few names in motoring which evoke more desirability and quality than BMW. The marque has always proved to be a bit of a no-brainer when it comes to buying cars on finance and the Bavarian firm have been very hard at work recently on new models to entice new and existing customers alike. The big news is, of course, a preview of the next generation 3 Series, which could prove to be BMW’s most important car yet.

BMW 6-Series: moving the game on

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

The latest version of the BMW 6-series has been on sale in the UK since 2003, and was launched with immediate popularity, in spite of its hefty price tag. This obviously did not have an effect on demand, as Britons inevitably found ways to finance this handsome, premium, executive coupe.

As popular as the BMW 6-series was, however, it was not without its flaws. This was because, although the 6-series was talented, it struggled in terms of its driving dynamics compared with other cars in this price category.

Times are changing however, and BMW are looking to bring the 6-series up to date and address the issues that prevented the previous version from becoming the legend they hoped it would be. If you’re considering a BMW leasing deal – or are a business customer investigating BMW 6-series finance options – you’ll be pleased to hear that there is a brand new 6-series out now, and BMW are quite proud of it. The question is, does the new 6-series make the grade?

Firstly, in terms of styling, the new car is much the same as the previous model. BMW’s ethos of evolution not revolution holds true here, with some simple styling updates that have modernised the look of the car, but will not upset owners of the previous model who spent over £60,000 on their car last year.

The instant you sit in the car, your senses are hit by a barrage of quality interior fittings. This car has certainly moved the game on from its predecessor, and is easily a match for its main rivals, the Mercedes E-Class coupe and Jaguar XK range. The interior quality is rich to say the least – as good as anything available this side of a Bentley.

If you do decide on a BMW 6-series leasing deal, you will not be disappointed. The car feels as though it could do 20 years of solid driving without batting an eyelid. With tank-like build quality, it has gained around 150kg over its predecessor. However, with the new engines punching above their weight, even the basic 3 litre twin turbocharged straight six will have your new car flying past 60mph in only 5.4 seconds – and, as with all BMWs, whether you get the top V8 version or the base 3 litre, your top speed will be limited to ‘only’ 155 mph.

Out on the country roads, despite this extra weight, the car feels nimble enough and fun to drive. The convertible may not carry all this talent over from the coupe, but both are excellent long-distance grand tourers.

With a range of BMW 6-series car leasing plans for individuals and BMW finance packages for business customers available online, you can shop around and compare prices to find the most competitive offers. If you decide on a BMW 6-series car lease deal, you can also carry out your whole purchase online and have your new car delivered directly to your door – saving you time and money.

Car finance: helping to ease those higher costs of living

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Motoring is one of the trademark pastimes for British people. The UK is famous for motoring, and is full of passionate automotive experts, both from a research and development perspective and from a manufacturing point of view.

The country used to be full of car manufacturers, both large and small, however with the sale of Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce and the demise of TVR all taking place in recent years, the UK automotive scene is not the same as it used to be.

True, if you were to take a trip over to Northampton in the Midlands, you would find numerous Formula One racing teams, race circuits, automotive and motorsport manufacturing facilities, all within a few square miles of each other – but these small manufacturing facilities are almost all that remains of what was once a world leader of the motoring industry.

This trend has doubtlessly had an impact on the car finance market in the UK. No longer can we choose from an abundance of locally made, affordable British cars, but we have to be more selective about foreign-built cars. Moreover, foreign-built cars tend to be more expensive, due to various taxes and profit margins that get added on by the time they go on general sale in the UK. Has this abundance of foreign cars affected how we approach car finance and car leasing deals?

Generally speaking, buying cars on finance is becoming more popular in the UK, and this may be down to various things, the most obvious being the recent economic climate. People have been spending beyond their means in recent years, and car finance and car leasing plans are an affordable and convenient way of sidestepping depreciation – whilst also having the option of trading your new car in every few years, much like you might with a mobile phone.

The question therefore remains, without many obvious choices of home-grown car marques to pull on the heartstrings of the British public, which car manufacturer is going to become the new UK champion? For a long time Ford proudly filled this void, however, over the last few years BMW have outsold Ford in the key sector of the small saloon car, with numbers of 3-series cars on finance booming, and have now overtaken Ford’s long-standing position at the top.

With the national choice now coming from Bavaria, it suddenly becomes clear why car finance and car leasing deals have become more popular: BMWs are simply more expensive than their rivals from Ford, or what their rivals would have cost from Rover, the British equivalent.

So, whilst the British resident is paying more in taxes to both live in the country and run a car, they also want to own the right car without compromise – and the right car just so happens to be more expensive to purchase.

What all the above means is that without loyalty to any British car manufacturers, UK car buyers are now having to look elsewhere, and they have selected BMW finance to carry the mantle. Taking into account the recent rise in living costs, perhaps the most affordable way of getting the new car you want is by securing one of many available BMW Leasing deals.

By shopping around and comparing prices online, you could save substantial amounts on car finance and car leasing plans – and have your new car delivered direct to your door.

Test drive: the verdict on the BMW X5

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Considering a BMW contract hire or car lease? Discover why the BMW X5 is a popular urban cruiser that may be the right fit for you.

BMW X5 leasing makes an expensive car much more accessible and has been used by savvy car shoppers in the UK since 1999. Following its launch, the X5 became an immediate favourite among businessmen, footballers and school-run professionals alike, with its popularity being boosted by the availability of BMW X5 car lease plans for individuals such as PCP or contract hire for businesses.

In 2006, the X5 was given a makeover with new engines and exterior design, which has helped keep it fresh as one of the UK’s favourite 4x4s. Since its launch, BMW X5 car leasing has been a very popular way of getting behind the driver’s seat – which, may we add, is often upholstered in the softest, richest Bavarian leather, adding to the luxurious interior ambiance.

If you are a business and opt for a BMW X5 contract hire deal, you’ll be getting a product from a company that, for over forty years, has shown class-leading skill in building cars that genuinely feel like luxury items.

BMW, more so than many of their competitors, produce cars that can be appreciated for excellent build quality, passion and soul – which, in an industry that is now dominated by mass-production techniques, is a very special attribute indeed and one that will not go un-noticed when you sit in the X5.

So, is BMW X5 leasing the right option, as opposed to its main rivals from Mercedes or Lexus? Well, it depends on the driver. BMW drivers tend to drive BMWs for a number of reasons, and high up on that list is the fun factor.

BMW has always chosen to create sporty cars focused on driver involvement and traditionally this has meant trading some ride comfort for an increased sense of ‘sportiness’. You must buy into this ethos of fast and fun cars if you are to lease any BMW, because elements of these features are in every car they build, including the X5.

BMW know that their customers want a car that will satisfy them when they wish to pick up the pace a little, which means that despite the rich leather and luxury ambiance, the ride can be somewhat stiff over bumps and potholes. To top this off, they thought it prudent to fit huge wheels with rubber-band style tyres – another contributor to the hard ride.

To ambitious drivers this is a worthwhile trade-off. However, those with no inclination to drive quickly may be left wondering why their luxury 4×4 is no more comfortable than the ‘Max Powered’ Vauxhall Nova typically favoured by teenagers. If this is you, then perhaps you should also consider the Mercedes ML or Lexus RX series, neither of which will handle as well, but will both offer you high levels of comfort.

With a BMW X5 car lease, you get affordable access to a new car that will be beautifully made inside, feature a modern engine and a sporty drive. Our advice regarding your BMW X5 car lease period would be to try the 3 litre turbo diesel engine, which gives an excellent spread of power, whilst also managing to sip rather than slurp fuel. It also features small wheels, to add a little extra comfort and take the edge off that comparatively harsh ride.

BMW X1, the Little S.U.V. That’s Good to Finance

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Sitting somewhere between the 3 Series Touring and the BMW X3, there is the BMW X1. A small(ish) sports utility vehicle with surprising efficiency. Starting at £24,265 for the base model 1.8 dSE sDrive, it isn’t the cheapest in it’s class to buy, but car finance is a great option to take away some of the pain and get you behind the wheel of a somewhat underrated car.

The X1 is actually based on the same platform as the AWD 3 Series Touring, with both 2 wheel drive (sDrive) and 4 wheel drive (xDrive). The strange thing is, it’s only offered with diesel engines (unless you live in America). However, as with all BMW diesels, they are not short of power. The base 1.8d has 1.8 141bhp and 140 lb-ft torque, up to the twin turbo 2.3 offering 201bhp and 300 lb·ft torque. (more…)

BMW Z4 Now a Proper Sports Car. Finance Takes Sting Out of Price

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

The BMW Z4 came out in 2002 to replace the slightly damp Z3. The Z3 never really caught on like BMW hoped, so the Z4 had to be a big improvement. The original Z4 was a big step forward, but the latest 2009 incarnation had to up it’s game again to compete with the strong Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5 and Porsche Boxster.

And hats off to BMW, it has. But with prices starting at £30,405 for the base model, it seems destined for the fortunate few. Because this car is so much better than the Z3 and the last Z4 (and has a BMW badge), used values are forecast to be favourable which means car finance can make it comparatively affordable. (more…)

BMW X5 – The S.A.V. Where Car Finance Makes Sense.

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

The BMW X5, termed an S.A.V. (Sports Activity Vehicle as opposed to Sports Utility Vehicle) which BMW hope emphasises the cars on-road abilities. Which is about right, as the X5 is no real off roader despite it’s beefy looks. Chances are it’ll spend most of it’s time on city streets than in the mud. A good thing, as the best it could offer with it’s lack of off road ability is a muddy track.

If you’re thinking of getting a BMW X5, the best way to fund it is on a car finance package. This helps get round paying out a lump sum of over £45,000  of your hard earned cash or going for a pricey bank loan. (more…)
