BMW X6: plenty of power
The new BMW X6 4×4 is another attempt by BMW to gain ground in the SUV market, and in terms of power, you don’t get much better than the X6. First produced in 2008, this is a significant update to the X5, with much more powerful engine options in a similarly sized vehicle.
Top Gear gives the X6 18/20 for performance, with the 3.0 litre models getting you from 0-62mph in just 6.5 seconds. Then there’s the stunning 4.4 litre V8, with a 0-62mph time of an impressive 5.4 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph.
What Car? agrees, claiming that there’s “no such thing as a slow X6”. That said, you may need to compromise when it comes to space – with four seats rather than the seven the X5 provides and quite a small boot. The price is high too, coming in at an average of £70,000 – but there are affordable BMW X6 deals available that can help to spread the cost.
One thing the BMW X6 certainly doesn’t compromise on, however, is comfort. Auto Express praises the “beautifully built” interior, with state-of-the-art electronics including climate control, parking sensors and an intuitive on-board computer. Couple this with excellent road grip and light steering, and it makes for a superb driving experience.
The only potential drawback to the X6 is its high running costs. All new BMW X6 models fall into the highest road tax bracket, and the average MPG figure is around 27.9. If you’re looking for an economical model, then avoid petrol and try the single turbo. Of course, one way to partially offset these costs is to make savings with affordable online BMW X6 deals.
Overall, the X6 is a great car for small families, and will certainly stand out on the road with its interesting design. You will need to be prepared for the considerable running costs, but what you’ll get in return is a massively powerful vehicle.
