Ford Kuga: an impressive late arrival
Normally at the forefront of innovative car manufacturing, Ford was late to produce its take on the compact SUV. However, the Ford Kuga 4X4 is well worth the wait and has taken the market by storm since its release in 2008.
After testing the 2.0litre diesel model – which delivers 135bhp – Top Gear were impressed. A new Ford Kuga comes with a “truly great engine”, a strong but flexible ride and crisp handling. You’ll get from 0-62 in just over 10 seconds and a maximum speed of 112mph – not bad at all for a car of this size.
What Car? prefer the more economical 2.0litre Zetec models, which maintain a high engine spec whilst delivering a more economical performance at around 47mpg. The larger 2.5litre model will consume more but the extra power may be worth it – 200bhp and speed that’s “quick enough to shock”.
No expense has been spared on the interior either, with Auto Express saying that the cabin is a “pleasant place to be”. You’re given a high driving position, leaving you feeling in full control and the compact nature of the SUV gives it a sporty feel. Keyless start, MP3 audio and alloy wheels come as standard with optional leather trim and dual climate control – all these can make a difference to the price, but finding the right deal will help significantly.
New Ford Kuga models offer a practical ride with ample rear seat space and a decent boot that can triple in size once the back seats are folded down. Couple this with a 5-star safety rating and excellent traction control and you have all the makings of a brilliant family car.
Costing around £21,000 – £27,000, the Kuga comes in at the more expensive end of Ford’s models, which is why Forg Kuga models on finance are well worth checking out.
